Q: My kid hides junk food in his room--I'm finding the wrappers. I've never allowed the stuff in my house. What's my move? Louise M. Boston MA

A: You're asking for diet advice from a guy who serves beer and nachos? Good call. But I can say this: If you tell a kid he can never, ever watch channel 23 on the cable box, what do you think'll be the first channel he turns to when you leave the room? It's human nature--we want what we can't have. I'm not pushing junk food, but maybe if you let the little bugger have a cookie twice a week, he won't stash Butterfingers under his pillow. As long as you make sure he eats right most of the time, you can let the kid be a kid some of the time.
